Pumpables Guide

From the way I talk about it, you may think I get a huge bonus check every time I get a client to buy the Pumpables Genie Advanced. In fact I don't have any relationship with Pumpables, I just really love this pump + hope you do too!

Basics

You can order it directly from Pumpables or there are a couple companies where you can order it through insurance as long as your plan is accepted. Alternatively, if you haven’t used your insurance breast pump benefit yet, you can buy it directly and then file a claim for partial reimbursement. See “Getting Set Up” for info about the pumping parts you need.

Getting Set Up

As much as I love this pump, I am not a big fan of their flanges. They work great for some but not most, in my experience. They also wear & tear more quickly and Pumpables recommends replacing the silicone parts every 2-4 weeks.

Option 1: Order the Pumpables with the flange size that matches the diameter of your nipple (do not add 1-4mm, as some other companies recommend). If you don’t like them, order this compatible flange and backflow protector.

Option 2: Order “Just Genie Advanced” when checking out. Get a full compatible pumping kit.

Most other pumping kits, including the Spectra one, are completely compatible with this pump so if you already have that, you just need to order “Just Genie Advanced.”

Get Pumping

This is a sample 20-ish minute routine to get you started. I have found that clients experience adequate stimulation & emptying from lower settings compared to the Spectra, but if you can tolerate or need the higher settings - go for it, as long as it’s not painful! Get pumping, but with less effort

Once you’ve gotten acquainted after a few pumping sessions, I recommend setting up your program. One of my favorite features of this pump is that you can save a custom program with all your own preferred settings.

To delete your current recorded program: Press the program button and minus button for 2 seconds to delete the stored pump program. You’ll know it worked when the [P] icon disappears from the screen.

Early Days: Stimulation Program

If you’re pumping in the first week or so and you have yet to collect ~30mL of breastmilk (total in one session between both breasts), use the following settings. Once you get >30mL 2-3x, switch your program to the one above.
